The County Board of Assessors is responsible for determining taxability, value and equalization of all assessments within the county. The Board of Assessors is a five member body of appointed citizens of Troup County, serving on a part time basis, who meet every second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 9:00 a.m. unless otherwise posted. The members are appointed for a fixed year term by the Troup County Board of Commissioners and operate autonomously. A Chairman is elected on an annual basis. The Board of Tax Assessors hires a Chief Appraiser to administer the functions of the Property Appraisal and Assessment Administration.
The County Board of Assessors notifies taxpayers when changes are made to the value of the property; receives and reviews all appeals filed; and ensures that the appeal process proceeds properly. In addition, it approves, all exemptions claimed by the taxpayer.
